Autumn in Reception
The cold weather has given us some fabulous nature treasures to discover. Today we found this circle of ice. The children had fun trying to decide what it reminded them of, we had suggestions of; the moon, a pizza, a face and the stars in the sky at night. One child said, “See those dots, they’re air bubbles.” Gosh, fantastic scientific knowledge from a 5 year old!
We have been talking about us living in the Rhubarb Triangle and have been watching the rhubarb grow in Early Years. We decided it was time to harvest it and children had great fun picking and preparing it, some even ate it!
Assembly about helping others and being a team
This week we were going to discuss about asking for help, helping each other and working as a team.
We were going to play a game which needed children to work together as a team to achieve and then to watch a short video about teamwork.
The link to the PDF which includes a link to the video is below:

Be thankful assembly
This week our assemblies in school would have been thinking about being thankful for what we have.
Here is a lovely clip about ‘being thankful’
Can you think of someone whom you would like to thank?
Maybe you could send a message or write a postcard or letter to them?
Maybe you could make a list of as many things as you can that you are thankful for. Can you think of 100 things?
Appreciation of the beauty of flowers
In assembly this week we were going to talk about the beauty of flowers.
They were going to be shown different flowers and try to identify them from their own knowledge or using an identification chart.
There is a pdf below showing pictures of flowers to identify – or maybe you have some in the house or the garden. The link for the pdf and the identification charts are below.
Remind the children that just as all the flowers are different and amazing, so, too, people are all different, but all wonderfully made. Just as flowers can brighten our day when we see them, so, too, each of us can brighten other people’s days by our care and our attitudes.

The Joy of Kindness home assembly
This week in assembly time we were going to talk about how an act of kindness can make us feel happy.
We were going to watch the short video of the story of the joy and the heron and talk about what happened in the story.
Who was kind to who?
How does it make people feel when someone is kind to them?
How does it make you feel if you perform an act of kindness?
What act of kindness can you do today?
Does being kind mean that you expect something in return?
Many thanks
Keep safe

Outwood Together Cross Country Event
What a pleasure to see the determination on the faces of the KS2 runners as they competed in the Cross Country Event. Every child achieved their personal goals and we are so proud them. Thank you to ACESport_UK for your support.
Hannah Cockcroft Visit
Recently, the school was incredibly privileged to receive a visit from local hero Paralympic athlete Hannah Cockcroft OBE who is well known for representing Great Britain in Wheel chair racing in the T34 classification. As part of her visit, Hannah led an assembly with the children where she discussed a range of areas including what life was like for her as a Paralympic athlete in terms of competition and training, her own experiences in school with regards to accessing sport and memorable events in her life.
Additionally, Hannah was treated to a dance routine performed by our recent KS1 dance winners and answered a variety of questions from the children themselves. The children had a fantastic time and felt really inspired by Hannah’s story.
