Stanley Grove is very proud to be affiliated with the British Heart Foundation’s Heartstart scheme. We were one of the first schools to take part in the scheme in Wakefield. Every year from Year 2 to Year 6 children are trained in First Aid. This ranges from how to phone for an ambulance; dealing with someone who is choking to helping someone who is unconscious by putting them in the recovery position. The children are taught using the Heartstart materials which are designed for each year group. Years 5 and 6 work on CPR using our own CPR dummies. By the time children leave Stanley Grove they have had 6 years of appropriate and thorough First Aid training.
We are very proud of our school council who organised fundraising for a defibrillator in our school. It has been used several times already and we are pleased to be supporting our community in this way. We have now purchased a practise defibrillator and from 2019, we will be including using a defibrillator in our heart start sessions for our older pupils.
