School Values
Please look at your child’s individual class page for year plans and weekly plans.
We are very proud of our curriculum which provides children with a breadth of experiences to make them successful and happy whilst at the academy and in their future life. The curriculum is well planned and designed and uses substantive and disciplinary concepts which are built on across the key stages and include key vocabulary.
Each year, children study a local hero and are encouraged to be aspirational and achieve great things for themselves.
Reading is at the heart of the curriculum. Our phonics is always above 90% and in 2025, 100% achieved the PSC. Book areas in each classroom contain beautiful age appropriate books and we read to our pupils every day. Classrooms display our recommended texts so these can also be shared at home. Children in Early Years and Year 1 access RWI systematic phonics programme. We have a loaning library which is available in every classroom and a separate school library which allows children to take home a reading for pleasure book every week.
Each year group take on and plan an enterprise project for our Christmas fair and learn about profit margins as part of this.
We teach first aid to year 1 to 6 including how to make an emergency phone call, checking for danger and CPR.
Music is a key component of our curriculum and children take part in a variety of music activities every week with a specialist music teacher and have access to after school music clubs. Year 4-6 pupils take part in Young Voices each year.
We have a fantastic outdoor environment which includes a forest, campfire area, allotment and wildlife area and children access regular outdoor lessons.
We employ a PE specialist every week who delivers lessons alongside staff and after school clubs. We also take part in a range of sports and competitions in school and across our Outwood Together Partnership. We have achieved Platinum Sports award since 2023 and have maintained this high standard and recognition in 2025.
We are very proud of our academic achievements and the access to the broad and creative curriculum we offer.
