Balancebility: Year 1

As part of on-going mission to ensure that our children are ready for school – ready for life, our Year 1 children took part in the yearly Balancebility sessions with the fantastic Cycle North team.

The focus of these sessions were about getting our children confident being sat on a bike, being able to move around an area whilst in control of the bike and lastly, remaining safe. It was wonderful to see all of our children engaged in the sessions and intent on demonstrating their safe control of the bike.

Well done Year 1

Bikeability: Year 5

Our Yearly Bikeability sessions are always welcomed and the Year 5 children undertook their Bikeability sessions with Cycle North. There was lots of focus on ensuring that they do the ‘safe bike check’, demonstrate safe control of the bike when moving around in both a closed and open area, and then adapting these skills to safely travel around the local area. #stgrovePE #preparedforlife

Mental Health Week 2025: Know Yourself Grow Yourself

Our Junior Well-being Leaders continued their fantastic work when they delivered a whole-school assembly with a focus on Mental Health Week and its theme – Know Yourself Grow Yourself’. As part of this, the leaders discussed what you could do if you felt sad and the steps you could take in terms of talking about this with a trusted adult in school.

There were a number of activities which took place in school consisting of mindfulness and Yoga. #Childrensmentalhealthweek

We invite parents into school regularly to inform them about how to support their child and them during their time in our school.  A workshop informing parents about the obesity strategy and then parents joined their children doing the 1K activities on the school field.  Over 150 parents attended.

Park Run Celebration Assembly

As part of our commitment to promoting Physical activity in and outside of school, we registered as a school to take part in the weekly Park Run initiative which ran simultaneously at Pontefract Park and Thornes Park every weekend. Since February 2019 our children have been engaging in physical activity with their parents completing the weekly Park Run. During our Celebration Shine assemblies, we have been recognising these achievements.

To our delight we were informed that out of the 20 Wakefield schools who registered, we came 3rd and in recognition of this Peter Ward (Health Improvement Officer) came into school to present our 3rd place trophy and give the children who took part a prize each. Well done to all of those involved
